Newsletter 8: Bat Girl Strikes and Berlin Berlin!

Welcome to this month’s newsletter and what a time it’s been with some international tarot gigs, fetish dance shows and even a trip to Berlin!

I AM BAT GIRL

I had the pleasure of performing at the launch of my friend and artist Estelle Riviere’s Tarot Oscuro event, along with doing some tarot readings too. Over lockdown, Estelle created original art for a custom made deck featuring an abundance of monstrous creatures and characters to mark each suite. But to top this off, Estelle also created a fashion show, and made costumes based on the characters featured in the deck. As she says, it was ‘A big amazing work!’ And that is was!

On the launch night, there were a whole lot of performers including myself, dressed up to the hilt in these incredibly crazy but stunning costumes. The event itself took place where the Tarot Oscuro exhibition were based, at the Islington Arts Centre in London, UK.

LIQUIDROM, BERLIN

I recently took a weekend trip to Berlin as I hadn’t been in many years and wanted to reacquaint myself with the quirky-groovy city.

On the first night I took a trip to Liquidrom, a salt pool spa. It was pretty amazing, and definitely fulfilled some of my voyeuristic fantasies.

The building itself loomed ahead of me as I exit the U-Bahn, appearing like a post-apocalyptic gazebo made out of concrete. I walked into the reception, and it was much like a spa, but quite basic. The receptionist looked at me and said ‘This is your first time,’ and knew I hadn’t been before. As a little smile etched across his face, he said ‘You’re going to have a good time…’ and handed me a robe, some flip flops and a locker key.

I understood that this spa was pretty liberal in terms of the dress code, and I couldn’t wait to hit the pool. The interior was like something out of a movie; neo-industrial subterranean decor, there was a long lowly lit bar, where people enjoyed drinks and food. Sun loungers faced a huge glass window overlooking the heated jacuzzi outside, more loungers on the decking. From the inside I thought it was another interior area, but I was hit with a very cold shock when I realised it was actually outside! Luckily the jacuzzi was hot, so it was OK, and I got to admire the brutalist architecture a lot closer…and the company of the people around me.

Back to the pool…I entered what felt like an underground oasis, a dome enclave, with dimmed spotlights, clear reflective waters, chill out trance and people floating dreamily in the water.

I stepped into the pool, welcomed by the soft warm waters and soon found myself gently wading through with a new sense of gravity, as I floated effortlessly. Couples canoodled, kissed and fondled gently with one other at the side of the pool. Some like myself were on their own, just enjoying the experience using tube-like floats as a harness whilst drifting in the water.

I took ‘centre pool’ and swam towards the middle and then floated on my back. As I looked up at the cupola, I noticed dancing reflections, glittering waters with light prisms morphing in and out shape. I realised that I could see myself looking directly back at...myself. I began gyrating my hips from side to side, dancing and flirted with my reflection ‘Hey you look good! I would!’ I thought…

One could say it was much like the story of Narcissus…but who knew you could get turned on by your own angelic, writhing-self in the magical waters…

It was very funny when I realised someone had walked off with my robe, but there’s nothing more liberating than walking around naked in an alternate futuristic spa-reality.
