NEWSLETTER 10: PSYCHIC SIMRET IN PARIS, WHILST I WAS AWAY AND THEN THE DOOR OPENED FILMS...
Please enjoy this Spring feast and savour!
Bonjour from Paris and thank goodness we’ve entered Spring!
I’m currently enjoying a Parisian lifestyle again although I didn’t expect it to come around so soon, I guess when opportunity strikes you have to see whether it’s a devilish function, or a doorway that opens up your life, even if for a moment in time.
Whilst in this beautiful city, I’ve managed to network at Parapsy, a well-known psychic fair and make some contacts.
I’ve also been doing some readings at a beautiful esoteric boutique called Les Mists-Terre d'Avalon where I’ve worked with some lovely clientele.
I’ve had some interesting gigs in London too, one at a hidden away restaurant called The Belvedere in Holland Park. I do love those ‘gated community,’ style events, as it provides a window into a different world, one that’s nice to be part of every now and then.
I also had an audition for Sky TV which was fun!
MAD PRE-CARNIVAL EVENTS IN KOLN
I recently visited my godfather in Koln, Germany and as he’s a photographer, I got to assist him at some local pre-carnival events. It was definitely crazy, but I was happy to be a bystander. I wrote about my experience in my latest blog here. And you can see a video that I documented which captures some of the madness. Enjoy!
THE CREATIVITY MOJO
I continue to battle with finding my roots and keeping my creativity going has been a struggle. I suppose life is full of peaks and troughs, and writing about them sometimes helps, or dipping into the river every now and then…
Last year when I went to my cousin’s wedding in Vancouver, Canada, I delved into 5x5 filmmaking. It’s a simple concept that a former mentor told me to try. He said that it’d be a good way of getting back into creative filmmaking. It’s a helpful method to explore concepts and gander the meaning of the visuals captured. It can also be a filmmaking challenge as to creating a story.
During my visit, I explored the forest with my friend Jan and captured some lovely shots. You can see my film below. When we see how powerful and majestic nature is, it makes you realise we are so much more than the flesh that binds us.
Anyhow, please enjoy my 5x5 film ‘Whilst I Was Gone.’
The longer version of this film is below, accompanied by a beautiful track named ‘Prayer,’ Music by Missing Horizon, Composed, Produced and Performed by Marco Genovesi with a stunning vocal performance by Frank Polucci. Thank you so much for letting me use your music!
ON THE HORROR OF DISAPPOINTMENT
Whilst there were joys in 2022, I experienced some servings of disappointment. I continue to work through that personally, but I wanted to share with you a quote a friend of mine Paul said. It’s so simple yet it really filled me with hope:
‘Always remember that disappointment is temporary.’
I find when in the darkness, that soulless pool which holds me hostage, these words provide some comfort, I hope they do for you also if you face the void every now and then.
I’ve made a film that represents this slumberous period and it’s slowly encouraged me to get back into experimental filmmaking and sound-scaping.
