Welcome to 2021. The start of a new year in the Spring Solstice and a new project, the Wickergirl Newsletter.
This newsletter will be sent to subscribers only and will contain some thoughts, ideas, photographs, videos and writings on my favourite topics: fetishism, eroticism and horror with a dash of spirituality. If you’re squeamish, best to bail out now. For those who remain I can promise some exclusive, macabre and somewhat provoking content.
RESOLUTIONS ANYONE?
Since it took me a few months to get settled into 2021, I set my new year’s resolutions when Spring Solstice arrived.
Like many others, my new year’s resolution is to keep my sanity. Although through lockdown there has been the constant pressure to make the most of the time creatively, I think it’s also important to acknowledge all the things that have been achieved, like the small victories. It’s something I’ve been battling with and, especially with a couple of unfinished projects, I’m my own worst enemy when it comes to being hard on myself. This comes from working at such a fast speed, that sometimes, once I’ve passed one level, I forget to enjoy it before moving onto the next. Ah the measure of success…where is your stick?
But, I’ve now decided to embark upon my own ‘board of victory,’ noting all the little things that I’ve accomplished.
In the great words of Charles Bukowski:
“If you have the ability to love, love yourself first.”
Which leads me to my next discovery…
My New Love
Let me share one of the gifts I received recently. A book by Charles Bukowski. I confess I hadn’t heard much about Bukowski until now. Even though I’m aware of the movie BarFly which is inspired by Bukowski’s life. But I loved reading his poems in Burning in Water, Drowning in Flames.
For those who are also in the dark about Bukowski’s poetry, think of him as a dirty old man who sees life through the bottom of a whisky glass and has much to say about it. That might sound like a cruel description. Alas, most of my ex-boyfriends would fall into the same category! Here is one of his poems. It’s called Beans with Garlic:
This is important enough:
to get your feelings down,
it is better than shaving
or cooking beans with garlic.
it is the little we can do
this small bravery of knowledge
and there is of course
madness and terror too
in knowing
that some part of you
wound up like a clock
can never be wound again
once it stops.
but now
there’s a ticking under your shirt
and you whirl the beans with a spoon,
one love dead, one love departed
another love.
Ah! as many loves as beans
yes, count them now
sad, sad
your feelings boiling over flame,
get this down.

EXPRESSIVE AFTERTHOUGHTS WITHIN SIMPLE MEDIUMS
I might not be able to produce the visceral beautiful, glossy high-end/high concept works I’d like to right now, but I can use what I have around me to at least express myself. I urge everyone to do the same!
The idea for this film came from the difficulties writers often face. When you have vocabulary you want to use and scenes repeating in your head, sometimes, it’s hard to create coherent sentences and structure, but yet the passion and expression is there.
My friend Samantha and I love to exchange new or resonating words. And, for a couple of years now, I’ve ended up making the odd neo-ASMR video repeating words to music. It’s quite a cathartic experience!
This film is called ‘Dirty Lips,’ and it’s a techno gore erotic story. I hope you enjoy it and please feel free to suggest words and sentences you’d love to hear me read out!
